12-hour Assam bandh peaceful in Margherita

MARGHERITA, June 28: The 12-hour Assam bandh called by Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad Asom on Tuesday passed off peacefully in Margherita subdivision. No untoward incident was reported from Powai to Jagun. The bandh was called to protest the Central Government’s decision to auction at least 12 oil fields of Assam to private companies. All business establishments, banks and offices remained closed but schools remained open due to the ongoing half-yearly examition. Chao Mintu Deodhai Phukan, general secretary of Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad Asom, central committee said that they would continue their agitation till the government took back its decision.
