12-hr Karbi Anglong bandh on Jan 24

HAMREN, Jan 22: United Karbi Students’ Association (UKSA), Karbi Anglong Rong Asar Amei (KARAA), Karbi Farmer Association (KFA) (Rajesh) ,Karbi Students and Youth Assembly (KSYA), Sixth Schedule Implementation Committee (SSIC), People For People (PFP), and Nillip Nihang Rong Asar Amei (NNKRA) have jointly called a 12-hour Karbi Anglong bandh on January 24 to demand immediate preparation of separate electoral roll by KAAC as per Para 20 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India, to prepare new Council rules and Council Act under Para 2 sub-para 7 (a) and (b) of  the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India by KAAC, to strengthen and restore the traditiol village council and Karbi Customary Law  under Para 4 of the Sixth Schedule and to repeal the 1959 land act and make a new land act by the KAAC authority.  The organizations had submitted a memorandum to the KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang on  September 20, 2016 listing these demands due to the delay of the KAAC authority in acting on these demands, the organizations served an ultimatum to the KAAC for 15 days on December 15, 2016, said the leaders of these organizations. In protest against non-fulfillment of their demands, the organizations declared a Kabri Anglong bandh on January 24 from 5 am to 5 pm.
