12-year-old raped in Tura

Tura, June 29: A 12-year-old was mentally harrased and later allegedly raped at Agalangre locality in Tura of West Garo Hills on June 23, a delayed police report said today. 
“We have received a complaint on the incident. However, despite several attempts to b the accused, he has remained at large. Search is on to arrest the accused, “said Raghuvendra Kumar, SP of West Garo Hills. 
Police said that medical examition has confirmed rape. 
The accused identified as Sengsang T. Sangma, 39 of Williamgar in East Garo Hills has been a habitual offender and was recently released on bail. Sangma raped the minor at her uncle’s residence in Agalangre locality.
Police said that relatives of the victim had made attempts to hush up the matter but the child protection officer intervened and made the victim’s family file an FIR at Women police cell of Tura Police Station. The FIR was filed on June 24.  
The accused had threatened the girl for nearly six hours and later took the victim to a nearby jungle and raped her, said the victim’s relative in the complaint.
The complaints further states that the accused had forcefully entered the residence, where the victim was alone. “The accused had threated the girl that she would be killed if she reported the matter, which made here remain silent”, the victim’s uncle told media. 
Locals of the area informed the child protection officer about the incident.
