HAMREN, Oct 17: The 12th Martyrs’ Day was observed at Charchim-Presek which was attended by students and leaders of various organizations. MAC Pawan Kumar, MAC Ri Terangpi, and MLA Dr. Mansing Rongpi were also present on the occasion. The Martyrs’ Day is observed in memory of the innocent people who died during the ethnic clash between the Karbis and Dimasas in the year 2005. Miscreants attacked at Charchim-Presek on October 17, 2005, torching a KAAC bus on its way from Diphu to Jirikindeng. In the incident, 41 people lost their lives. The Hamren KSA regiol committee handed over a memorandum to MAC Rii Terangpi addressed to KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang, demanding that October 17 should be declared as KAAC holiday and guest houses should be constructed at Charchim.
