13 basketball grounds iugurated in Cachar

SILCHAR, Nov16: The Cachar district administration along with the rest of the State, in commemoration of 126th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, iugurated 13 basketball grounds in 13 blocks of the district on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Deepshikha Dev, project director of DRDA, said that the Jawaharlal Nehru Gramin Krida Prakalpa Scheme have  been undertaken by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department under the Chief Minister’s Special Package. The projects have been iugurated formally in 219 development blocks of the state on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Chacha Nehru. She further said that the works have been executed under MGNREGA.  A total of 13 out of 15 projects across the district have been accomplished within the scheduled time while the works in Salchapra and Kalain blocks will be accomplished shortly.

 It should be mentioned here that in some parts of the district, the local people have expressed their dissatisfaction over the construction works of the project. Talking to the media, Monoj Kumar Jaiswal, former GP president of Borakhai gaon panchayat, said that the quality of works is extremely poor. He held the engineers concerned responsible for it. The project is meant to help the children to develop themselves in the field of sport. The construction works have already been delayed and now it is getting iugurated without completion.

 Meanwhile, Manindra th Bhattacharjee, BDO of Borjalenga, denied the allegations leveled by the local people regarding the project. The BDO said that the project has been executed in a proper manner and the works done are of the highest standards. It is a long term project worth Rs.57 lakh each in all the blocks and Rs.7 lakh out the total amount was sanctioned in the first phase. In most of the projects across the district, the amount sanctioned is similar and all are of the same quality.

Amul Haque, MLA Soi, who was the chief-guest of the iuguration ceremony of the ground at Silcoorie tea estate, said that the department will examine the quality of the works. The works will be redone if needed. Talking about other questions raised by the local citizens, Haque said all the issues related to the welfare of the people will be looked at. He further praised Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country, for his vision to develop the living standards of the people of the tion.

 A similar basketball ground was iugurated by Rajdeep Goala, MLA Lakhipur, in a programme held at Dilkhush tea estate of the subdivision. A total of Rs.57 lakh was also sanctioned under the CM’s Special Package for the project. The programme was presided over by Moybati Rabidas, president of Binkandie anchalik panchayat. Speaking on the occasion, Rajdeep Goala said after completion of the ground, the youth of the area will be able to train themselves in modern sporting techniques and methods. The sporting complex will unleash the true potential of the youth. The stadium will be completed shortly. He impressed upon the local youth to use the ground judiciously. He further said that the people should see that the ground is used properly.

Prabal Dasgupta, BDO Binkandie, said that out of the amount released till now, the court has been constructed. The project will be completed soon after the remaining funds are released. The project has been constructed under the supervision of Sudhir Sarkar, Junior Engineer. He informed the gathering that the state government has already undertaken other welfare initiatives for the Binnkandie development block of the subdivision.

The local public expressed their satisfaction to Rajdeep Goala for taking a number of initiatives to develop the rural belts of the subdivision. All the 9 GP presidents under Binkandie development block along with labours and common people of the tea estate were present on the occasion. Others who spoke on the occasion included Monojit Das, president of Binnkandie Block Congress, Kanti Singh, Kai Koiri, Raghu Rikiasan, Dulan Baori, Manoj Koiri, senior Congress functiories of the subdivision.
