13 lakh toilets constructed

GUWAHATI, Feb 20: PHE officials claim that around 13 lakh individual household toilets have been constructed as of now in the State. Taking part in an AIR News talk show, Dristipaat in Guwahati, PHE officials Diganta Baruah and Moinuddin Dewan said that the target has been set to construct a total of 34.85 lakh toilets under Swacch Bharat Mission by October 2 this year. Under Swacch Bharat Mission, nine gram panchayats in Kamrup district have been declared as open defecation free. As a whole, 32 GPs in the state have achieved it.  On the other, Kamrup district administration has started to transfer money directly to beneficiaries to construct toilets under Swacch Bharat Mission. This process is expected to bring more transparency in the system. On the alleged irregularities on construction, both of officers said that beneficiaries can meet nearby PHE offices.
