13-month old baby diagnosed with blood cancer, family seeks help

PATHSALA, Dec 5: A thirteen-month old baby from Bajali has been diagnosed with blood cancer who belongs to a very poor family. His father Deepak Talukdar works as a painter and his mother Jutika Talukdar is a housewife. They are residents of village Votanto Mohitora near Saderi of Pathsala, Barpeta district. As per the medical report, the stomach of the boy is getting enlarged and there is a huge fallout in the haemoglobin percentage. The boy was referred to Apollo Hospital from a private hospital in Pathsala of Barpeta district for further treatment. Meanwhile, doctors from Apollo Hospital have referred the child to the newly-opened GMCH cancer hospital in Guwahati. On Monday, the doctors of GMCH told his parents to send him outside Assam to a different hospital for better treatment.

 While speaking to the correspondent, Deepak Talukdar, father of the child, said, “I am facing fincial problem in continuing the treatment as we do not have much money.” The family has requested State Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for fincial help.
