134th Martyrs Day observed at Haflong

Haflong, February 12: The 134th Martyrs Day of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo was observed here at Haflong in a befitting manner in presence of huge gathering on Friday. The programme, organised by the Dimasa Students’ Union, began with the offering of floral tribune to the statue of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo by dignitaries like Brig S Viswasrao, commander, 22 sector, senior citizens, youths and students. This was followed by garlanding of the statue by Sri J. N Bathari and others.

Speaking on the occasion Kailen Daolagupu, President, Jadikhe sho Hosom (JNH) said, “Though we have achieved freedom from British but, the people of Dima Hasao yet to achieve the freedom since the Assam Government has been neglecting the district in every sphere of life. Though the district is having every possibility for the development but the negligence from Assam Government has pushed the people to be backwards.”

Dethang iding said, “We should follow the footprints of Veer Phonglo for the development of society.”

A procession from the Statue of Veer Sambudhan was also taken out to the Cultural Institute Hall where competitions like drawing, painting, essay writing, photography, and extempore speech among the students were held.
