14 employees seriously injured at Tengakhat ITF section

Duliajan, May 20: Fourteen employees were seriously injured on duty at Tengakhat ITF section during the process of neutralization of acid to the section from water well on Tuesday night.

The injured workers have been identified as Topon Kumar Das (55), OIL employee, Chandra Gogoi (35), OIL, Uma Saikia (30), WCCL worker and 10 workers under Spectrum Private Firms were Pradip Phukan (30), Debashish Gogoi (24), Samujjal Phukan (30), Biju Dutta (32), Sanjiv Kalita (27), Bishal Duarah (30), Lal Urang (32), Priyankshu Pachani (32), Rajesh Sarmah (37) and Gautam Chetry (32), a driver under contractual basis.

These employees after receiving poisonous chemical gases had felt stomach and chest pain. Immediately, they were sent to Tengakhat Civil Hospital for primary treatment but later all of them were sent to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh. On Wednesday morning AMCH, Dibrugarh further sent the patients to Aditya Hospital, Dibrugarh for better treatment. According to sources, all patients are out of danger.

OIL officials said that a high-level inquiry would be done on the incident.
