Dibrugarh, July 13: The Excise Department busted at least 14 illicit liquor production units at Bongalgaon and Hiloidari villages, just behind the Assam Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday. The excise department’s raiding squad arrested 12 persons who were allegedly involved in the trade. They also seized 175 litres illicit liquor, 2,750 litres fermented wash and 21 distilling apparatus during the raid. The excise squad also dismantled 14 manufacturing units of illicit liquor. Liquor dons of the area had been supplying their produce to areas adjacent to AMC&H, liapool, Paltanbazar, Chandmarighat, Railway colony, and nearby dhabas since last several years. Youths of various ages carrying illicit liquor in bottles or canisters riding on bicycles and moving around through lanes and bylanes in order to supply their produce to their respective clients was a common sight in these areas.
However, two of the illicit liquor manufacturers maged to escape from the dragnet of the Excise Department’s raiding squads during operation.
