142nd birth anniversary of Birsa Munda observed

From our Staff Correspondent

Dibrugarh, Nov 15: The Assam Munda Mahasabha took out a huge cultural procession here on Wednesday to mark the 142nd birth anniversary of the popular tribal leader as well as freedom fighter, Birsa Munda. Different member units of the organization like Dikom, Makum, Tinsukia, Panitola, Rohmoriya, Talap and others took part in the rally. Munda became a prominent figure in India’s struggle for freedom when he spearheaded a movement in the tribal regions of modern-day Bihar and Jharkhand in the late 19th century in defiance to the British Raj. Interestingly, Munda is the only tribal leader to have a portrait of him hanging in the Central Hall of the Indian Parliament.
