TINSUKIA, June 29: Apprehending security breach following illegal encroachment in and around upcoming Digboi Marketing Terminal of IOC at Golai, the Margherita Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Tinsukia district by an order declared the area as ‘Protected and Prohibited Area’ U/S 144 CrPC. After a formal request was made by the Deputy General Manager (Terminal) of Digboi Marketing Terminal, Golai to the SDO(Civil) Margherita to the effect that the terminal has been handling and storing hazardous petroleum products in an area covering 125B-2K-12.5L, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Margherita Sumit Sattawan imposed complete restriction for unauthorized access and movement within the premises so as to ensure safety and security of Digboi Marketing Terminal area. It can be mentioned here that some locals from Golai had been creating problems in the area by preventing movement of contractual labours carrying goods and materials from Tinsukia Terminal which created law and order problems. There were also reports of locals being allegedly involved in extortion from truckers and allegedly running a syndicate within the terminal area in collusion with the local police.
