144th birth anniversary of Padmath Gohain Baruah observed

SIVASAGAR, April 25: The first president of the premier literary body, Axam Xahitya Xabha, Padmath Gohain Baruah was remembered on his 144th birth anniversary here recently. Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha in collaboration with Sivasagar Rangpur Xahitya Xabha, organized the anniversary function at the office premises of Sivasagar Rangpur Xahitya Xabha.

Swarjyoti Baruah Borbora, executive member of AXX, paid floral tribute at the portrait of the literary icon. The open session, which was presided over by the president of Rangpur Xahitya Xabha, Nilamoni Mahanta, started with the song Chiro Senehi Mur Bhakha Jani.

Attending the event as keynote speaker, Head of the Department of Assamese of zira College and former secretary of Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha, Dr. Jibon Kalita spoke about Padmantah Gohain Baruah’s contribution towards Assamese society and literature.

Noted novelist Dhirendra th Bhuya attended the programme as distinguished guest, while others who attended the programme included Mukul th, Gyanendra Moupia, Gobin Bora, Manoj Taye, Amika Kalita, Santosh Dutta and other office bearers of Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha and Rangpur Xahitya Xabha.
