147th Gandhi Jayanti celebrated in Mangaldai

MANGALDAI, October 2: Along with the rest of the country, the people of Mangaldai too celebrated the 147th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as Gandhi Jayanti in a befitting manner at Gandhi Smriti Udyan here.

The district administration of Darrang took the initiative for the celebration of this day to pay the tribute to the Father of the tion. Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Ashok Kumar Barman and all the officials and employees of the DC’s office, leading citizens, freedom fighters, women activists and students earlier offered garlands to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi in the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the morning. Later, in the august function at Gandhi Smriti Udyan, prominent citizens, freedom fighters, family members of the freedom fighters and women activists also offered floral tribute at the Gandhi Memorial.

Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman, Additiol Deputy Commissioners Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati and Prasanta Borkakati, senior citizen Rajen Barua and other prominent persons also offered their floral homage. An all-faith prayer, followed by competitions among children, was also organized.
