14th Offsite Disaster Mock Drill held at NRL

Golaghat (Dhekial), March 21:  Numaligarh Refinery Limited authorities, with cooperation from Golaghat district administration, conducted the 14th offsite disaster mock drill of NRL on Tuesday with a scerio of major leakage of LPG vapour from the LPG bottling plant.
As per the scerio, an earthquake caused the flange leakage and the leaked hydrocarbon vapours formed a cloud and moved outwards in the eastern direction due to wind, resulting in fire in some hutments ignited by domestic ignition source at the Railway colony.
The district administration and NRL jointly conduct such offsite mock drills every year to meet the requirements of MSIHC rule, 1989 and PNGRB Act, 2006.
For safety of the public and as part of the exercise, people in the neighbourhood of NRL were also involved in the awareness exercise. The old NH-39 (from Telgaram to Purabangla) remained closed for use of the general public for some time. NRL and State Government medical teams were kept on standby.
The mock drill was followed by a review meeting which was held to identify the various shortcomings in the exercise and preparedness of emergency plan and also to develop the skills of the key personnel of various departments of the district administration as well as refinery personnel to tackle real emergency situations.
NRL Director (Technical), BJ Phukan, Sr Mager (HR) AK Bhattacharyya, Additiol Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat, Amarjyoti Barman, DSP (Hq) Shyam Kumar Chauhan, Circle Officer, Morongi, SK Gogoi, District Project Officer, DDMA, Ronney Rajkumar, heads of various government departments, along with senior officials of NRL were present at the exercise.
