155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanda observed

Silchar, Feb 4: Vivekanda Art Academy has observed the 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanda, the cyclonic Hindu monk, at the premises of J K and J K Sen L P School, Rabindra Sarani, Fulertool, last Sunday. The programme began with the hoisting of the flag by Satyajit Das, secretary of the Academy, which was followed by the felicitation of guests. The programme was graced by the presence of Swami Satyasthandaji Maharaj, secretary, Ramakrish Mission, Silchar, who lit the auspicious lamp. This was followed by paying rich tributes to the idol of Swami Vivekanda.

The iugural song by Poulomi Roy, a student of Lakhipur Sangeet Vidyalaya, kept the audience spellbound. Speaking as the chief-guest on the occasion, Swami Satyasthandaji Maharaj laid stress on the role of parents and guardians in educating their children and showing them the path of righteousness and morality. He said, “Young minds and children should be given proper advice on the moral values of life. They should be taught that cleanliness is a supreme virtue and this habit should be inculcated.” The students of the Academy beautifully rendered the Swadesh-mantra.

Among others who spoke on the occasion, included, Man Ranjan Deb, president, Vivekanda Art Academy, Pradip Kumar Gupta, circle officer, Lakhipur, Ajit Das, secretary, Ramakrish Sevashram Sangha, Lakhipur, Rimi Paul, chairperson, Lakhipur Municipal Board. The programme was presided over by Jagobandhu Das, retired head teacher, Union High School, Fulertool. Among others, present on the occasion, included, Shibth Mishra, retired principal, Nehru Higher Secondary School, Dr A K Choudhury. Warm clothes were also distributed among 50 people belonging to BPL category.
