Itagar, March 9: Aruchal Pradesh Home Minister Kumar Waii today informed that the state government has appointed 1570 police posts out of sanctioned 1949 posts under Centre’s special package for insurgency-hit Tirap Changlang and Longding districts.

Responding to a question raised in the assembly by BJP member Wanglin Lowangdong, the home minister said that recruitment for the remaining 379 posts lying vacant would be made soon.

A total of 36 sub inspectors, 1530 constables, three head constables (Traffic) and one carrier were appointed under the special package.

“These posts were sanctioned for opening up 11 new police stations and upgradation of nine existing police stations under the districts,” he said and added that the state government had put a proposal for 74 crore under State Annual Development Agenda (SADA) for development of police infrastructure throughout the state.

To a supplementary the home minister informed that the Centre had withdrawn an amount of 58 crore sanctioned for maintence of police station on March last year but the state government has proposed Rs 24 crore before sending a proposal of Rs 156.20 crore on January 5 last to the Union Home Ministry with a request to convey the ministry’s approval for getting the work executed through Rural Works Department at the earliest.

“The approval from the home ministry has still not received and so construction and upgradation of police stations could not be started,” he disclosed adding, the state government had sanctioned an amount of Rs 501.70 lakh for construction of OBT (Ordiry Building Type) building to start the 11 new police stations under Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts for effective law and order maintence.

The OBT buildings were completed and out of 11 police stations, ten were functioning and another at Lawnu yet to function, the minister said.

“The process of construction work for 11 new police stations and upgradations of 9 existing police stations can be initiated only on receipt of approval of the revised estimate of Rs 156.20 crore from the home ministry,” Waii added.
