15th Capt Jintu Gogoi VRC Memorial Football Tournament held at Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: Nazira College on Tuesday produced a splendid performance over Lahowal College at the 15th Capt Jintu Gogoi VRC Memorial Football Tournament 2018-19 held at Victory Polo Ground, Paltan Bazar, Dibrugarh today.

As per reports, Nazira College won the match defeating Lahowal College by 4-0.

Scorers in the match were Utpal Das, Agresh N Mahanta, Nabanit Borguhain, Souravjyoti Gohain.

On the other hand, NLB City College defeated Digboi College by 4-1 at the 15th Capt Jintu Gogoi VRC Memorial Football Tournament.

The Scorers for the Match 2 were Rahul Bori, Hirakjyoti Moran, Lakshyajit Sonowal, Kalyan Baulari.

It may be mentioned that 15th Captain Jintu Gogoi, Veer Chakra Memorial Football Tournament organized by ‘Dao Division’ under Operation SADBHAVANA, as a mark of tribute to Kargil Martyr and Assam ‘Bir Chilarai’ Captain Jintu Gogoi, Veer Chakra at Army Polo Ground, Paltan Bazar, Dibrugarh was kicked start on 16th December 2018.

Furthermore, the grand opening ceremony of the tournament was witnessed by a large gathering and Tilo Sonowal, who has immensely contributed to Assam’s literature, author of many books, social worker and recipient of many awards including Dr. Ambedkar Sahityashree National Award was the chief guest for the occasion.

The tournament has over the past few years, evolved as an ideal platform for the youths of Assam to showcase their passion for the game and give them a launch pad to bolster their sporting talent. The tournament not only patronizes the sporting talent in Assam but also propagates the universal message of ‘Peace through Sports.’ The Captain JintuGogoi, Veer Chakra Memorial Football Tournament is unique by itself as it has free entry for all the participating teams.

Eighteen College teams of Upper Assam are participating in the tournament including One team from Army (i.e. parent unit’s team of Captain Jintu Gogoi, VrC) and Two Girls teams.

The tournament was inaugurated by Tilo Sonowal and Officer TR Gogoi, father of Captain Jintu Gogoi, Veer Chakra on 01:10 pm at Army Polo Ground, Paltan Bazar, Dibrugarh followed by an inaugural match.

The tournament commenced on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, also paying a tribute to the martyrs of 1971 war.
