Golaghat, July 13: The Golaghat district administration seized 16.6 quintals of salani fish in Golaghat town fish market on Thursday. According to report, the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat, Gourav Bothra instructed officials of the fishery department to determine the fishes which were sold in the market. The officials of fishery department found that some dishonest fish wholesalers and retail sellers were allegedly selling salani fish by claiming that these were local fish from the Dhansiri, Kakodunga river.

Later, a team of officials led by Inspector Monuj Bora and Sub-Inspector Mriganka Krishna Gogoi of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, conducted a raid and seized two quintals and 60 kg of salani fish from retailer shops and 14 quintals from the wholesale market. The fish were being sold to customers as local fish at a high price. The seized fish were destroyed in Nagabali with the help of Golaghat Municipality Board. On the other hand, a salani fish-laden truck bearing registration number AP16TH 98 entered Golaghat and the administration has launched search operation for the truck.
