16 shops gutted at Umsning

SHILLONG, June 16: As many as 15 shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out at around 2.30 am on Thursday morning at Umsning Proper A in Ri bhoi. However, no one was hurt during the fire.  According to sources the damage incurred by the fire is estimated to be at around Rs. 30 lakh. Chairman of Umsning town Durbar, Nicky Kharthangmaw and headman of Umsning Proper A, Nickson Kharkrang, said that the incident is a huge loss for the residents of Umsning and for the shop owners after the fire turned all their shops into ashes.
