16-year old allegedly gang-raped in Bajali

PATHSALA, April 26: In a horrific incident in Bajali under Barpeta district, three men allegedly raped a Class X student on Sunday night. The victim, a resident of Tepotari in Bajali subdivision of Barpeta district, is a Class X student of Pathsala Girls’ School. She was allegedly raped by Dhrubajyoti Rai, son of Debendra Rai of Sartebari, village Singragaon. The accused met the victim about a year back and knew her pretty well. He had earlier even threatened to kill her brother if she did not marry him.  On Sunday night, Dhrubajyoti along with two friends came in a Maruti van and kidpped her at around 9 pm. The trio took her to the outskirts of Neulabari village and allegedly raped her. They then threw the victim in a river. Due to less water in the river, she floated to the river bank and was rescued by a villager. The victim’s family lodged an FIR against the three accused in Pathsala Police Station. The accused are currently on the run and police have launched an operation to b the culprits. Investigation is going on, said Partha Pratim Biswas, IC of Pathsala outpost.
