16-year-old raped by teacher, accused arrest

Tura, May 11: Police today said that a teacher of a private school from Betasing in South West Garo Hills was arrested on May 4 for allegedly raping a 16-year-old on multiple occasion. “The victim was hesitant to speak to us and did not give us complete details. The District Child Protection Officers (DCPO) met the victim but she was still unwilling to talk. However, when she met the doctor for medical checkup she opened up and spoke in detail about the abuse meted to her by the teacher,” said Bobby Momin, SP of South West Garo Hills. Police arrested the accused Sojjen Marak, 35 following a complaint filed by her. The victim was staying at Marak’s residence along with his wife. The victim had fled from Marak’s house in January 2. On May 2, she appeared at Ampati police station to file the complaint against Marak. Police said that with the victim’s appearance at the police station, the teacher made attempt to evade the arrest, however, he was arrested. Marak is on a 14 days judicial custody.
