16-year-old youth killed

SILCHAR, April 18: A gruesome murder took place at Vivekanda Road of this town at around 2 pm today. The victim, identified as Shyamal Das, 16, was an assistant working under contractor Kuti Das also known as Tilak. Shyamal Das was hit on his head with a hammer by rabinda Das who drives a cart. The only eye witness Parimal Das, another worker, said, “They were discussing something and it suddenly led to a brawl. Within moments, rabinda took a hammer and smashed Shyamal on his head. Shyamal died on the spot and rabainda Das ran away from the spot. They are neighbours and are from Tapoban gar.” The incident took place at Hirendra th’s residence which is located at Lane No. 24 of Vivekanda Road. D. Shuchiang, sub-inspector, Tarapur outpost and also the investigation officer in this case, reached on the spot and sent the dead body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for the purpose of postmortem. The incident has taken the residents of Vivekanda Road by surprise that a simple brawl should lead to such a heinous crime. The twin murders of a mother and son that took place on April 10, at 2nd Link Road, still remain unsolved. As such people are worried and are questioning the efficacy of the police administration.
