Joysagar, Jan 5: In a major operation conducted by the Sivasagar Police on Thursday night, as many as 17 notorious gamblers were arrested by the police team. As per reports, Sivasagar Sadar ASP Bolin Deori, after getting secret information, raided a remote house situated in Bogidol Singhadwar area under Joysagar PS. In this operation, police also recovered more than Rs 1 lakh in cash along with six luxury vehicles from the spot. Police have seized cars and cash.
The persons involved in illegal and anti-social acts, besides gambling, were identified as-Hemanta Gogoi (34) of Nimaijan, Sanjiv Dutta (45) of Dolmukh, Salim Ahmed (48) of No-2 Japisojia village, Babul Bora (27) of Panbecha, Kanchan Das (45) of Simaluguri, Nilutpal Das (34 ) of Thamukh, Babul Saikia (20) of Salmora Gaon, Prassan Hati Baruah (28) of Taxi ali, Dilip Changmai (46) of Betbari, James Konwar (24) of Simaluguri, Diganta Bharali (32) of AT Road, Asad Hussain (34) of Demow, Pradip Gogoi (44) of Banmukh and Palash Pallab Das (37) of Dhuliapara gaon of Sivasagar district.
Moreover, three police personnel were also bbed in Thursday night’s operation who were involved in gambling and were allegedly in charge of security of the gamblers’ gang. The police personnel have been identified as Anil Chring Phukan of Sivasagar, Pur Gogoi and geshwar, posted as house guards in the Sivasagar DC Bungalow. Besides, Two hardcore crimils were able to escape during the operation and they are Paresh Das of Joysagar and Ra Bordoloi of Sivasagar town, revealed sources.
A case in Sivasagar Sadar PS under Assam Gambling and Betting Restriction Act-1970/US-14/11 and 12 has been registered against all the arrested persons involved in illegal, anti-social and gambling acts on Thursday night. One Khindra Hazarika (Baba) has been identified as the owner of the house where the gambling was going on and he is absconding. Conscious citizens of Sivasagar have welcomed and appreciated the tough move of Sivasagar Police against anti-social elements.
