17,293 Teachers Posts Vacant, Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) Exam In September

GUWAHATI: The Education Department will hold the General Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) for the Lower Primary and Upper Primary school teachers in September this year. This mandatory qualifying examination for teachers is organized under the Right to Education Act. This is the second time that the General TET examination will be held in the State after it was first held seven years ago. The candidates who qualify in the Teachers’ Eligibility Test examination will be able to Apply against the vacant posts. There are at present 17, 293 vacant posts at the LP and UP levels in Assam. Of these 10,137 are in the Lower Primary level while 7,155 posts are lying vacant at the Upper Primary stage.

A source in the State Education Department told The Sentinel that “any candidate who qualifies in the Teachers’ Eligibility Test examination does not necessarily mean that he or she will get the job. It simply means that the persons concerned are now qualified to apply against the advertised vacant posts.”

Meanwhile, State Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya on Wednesday said, “Those TET qualified teachers who are serving in permanent posts are not required to appear in the second round of the TET examinations slated in September 2019.”
