17th Lok Sabha session begins today, MPs in traditional attires adds much colour and joy
New Delhi: Monday witnessed a cheerful first day of the 17th Lok Sabha session with the newly-elected members appearing to be jolly, happy and excited in their colourful traditional attires. Some of the newly elected MPs took to wear traditional attires, while others remained saffron.
Some of the MPs chose to represent their state and its unique culture, while some others opted for representing their political party. Just like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah stuck to their trademark attires Kurta, Pyjama and half-sleeve jacket followed by Union ministers Prahlad Joshi, Giriraj Singh and G K Reddy in same attires, other MPs wore their traditional clothes. Some of those MPs are Bihar MPs Gopal Jee Thakur and Ashok Kumar Yadav who wore traditional Maithil attire and headgear. On the other hand, the Assam MPs took to wear the traditional Assamese ‘gamocha’ which once again, is a symbol of the state’s culture. Another northeastern new MP, Tapir Gao from Arunachal Pradesh wore the traditional blue Arunachali jacket.
Other notable faces were the YSR Congress MPs from Andhra Pradesh who sported the ‘Angavastram’ that has picture of party President and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The newly elected BJP MP from Bhopal MP Pragya Singh Thakur wore her trademark saffron robe. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal was seen in the traditional Rajasthani saffron and green headgear. Other new MPs like film star Sunny Deol too was seen in the Lok Sabha session who looked pretty simple and formal in shirt and trousers.
The first day of the session witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of newly-elected MPs and this practice is going to continue for over two days. PM Narendra Modi and his cabinet ministers Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad took their oath on the first day itself.
