18 liquor shop dealers arrested

Silchar, Sept 9: 18 liquor shop dealers were arrested in an operation undertaken by the Excise Department, Lakhipur recently. The month long operation was led by Dilal Uddin Barbhuiyan, in-charge, Excise Inspector, Lakhipur, at Shivtilla, Baladhan tea estate, Pailapool, Shivpur among others. Case was registered against these dealers under the Excise Act. A large quantity of country and foreign made liquor was recovered.  

Machines and instruments which are required to make liquor, shops and makeshift shops were completely destroyed by the operation team. Recently, Gaurav Kumar Agarwal, SDPO, Khirod Baishya, office in-charge, Lakhipur PS along with other police personnel went to Pailapool and searched a number of shops. 5 persons were taken into custody for selling liquor.
