18-yr old boy drowns in Jia Bharali river

Tezpur, July 17: In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old boy drowned while taking bath in Jia Bharali River on Sunday afternoon. The drowning victim was identified as Mujahidul Islam (18), inhabitant of Panchmile Tengabasti village area under Borghat Police Station in Sonitpur district. According to sources, Mujahidul Islam, who was a Higher Secondary first year student of Tezpur College, went to the river along with his friends and while taking bath, he accidentally slipped and drowned. His friends cried for help and some local people rushed to the spot but could not locate the victim due to heavy stream of current in the water, sources said.  Later, SDRF team initiated search operation and recovered the body of the victim.
