'1951 must be the base year for identification of foreigners in Assam'- Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad, Asom

LAKHIMPUR: The Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad, Asom will never accept 1971 as the base year for the identification of illegal foreigners in Assam. The base year must be 1951. This was declared by the leaders of the organization in a press meet organized at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Friday.

Addressing the media persons, State president of the organization, Balen Baishya said that the base year for the identification of the illegal migrants in Assam was 1971 when the same was 1951 across the nation. "We cannot accept the imposition of 1971 as base year through the Assam Accord which was signed at the cost of supreme sacrifices made by 855 martyrs in the Anti Foreigners Movement of Assam. This accord has imposed on the State the additional burden of illegal migrants of 20 years which can be accepted by none," he added further. In this regard, the state president termed the Assam Accord as the bane to Assam rather than boon. He went on saying that the Supreme Court also made the illegal foreigners' problem complex in Assam with its contradictory stands. "Because a case is still under trial in the Supreme Court with a plea of 1951 as base year for the identification of illegal foreigners in Assam", he stated in the press meet where many other dignitaries of the organization were present.
