19th death anniversary of BLT founder chairman observed

KOKRAJHAR, June 28: The 19th death anniversary of the founder of Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT), Bir Chilagang Basumatary was observed at Chilagangpuri, Bongshigami in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.

As part of the programme, the wife of Basumatary, Ramani Basumatary paid rich floral tribute at the portrait of her husband. The EMs of BTC- Doneswar Goyary and Rajib Brahma, former EM Sobharam Basumatary, former Rajya Sabha MP, UG Brahma and general secretary of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Lawrence Islary, paid floral tribute to the founder of BLT. The leaders of All Bodo Women’s Welfare Federation (ABWWF) and leaders of other organizations also paid tribute in a simple ceremony.

BTC EM Doneswar Goyary said this year the programme was not organized in a big way but the leaders of different organizations and sympathizers had come to offer floral tribute to Bir Chilagang Basumatary. He said Chilagang Basumatary founded the BLT, the armed revolutiory wing of the Bodos. He said the creation of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) had become a reality because of the dedication and selfless efforts of Basumatary who was one of the most devoted leaders.

Goyary said the council had a big plan to beautify the burial place of Chilagang Basumatary. It also had plans to construct some memorials and halls in the premises of Chilagangpuri. Due to certain lapses, the developmental activities had not taken place but this year, the council has decided carry out and execute all developmental works as per plan.

The secretary of Bir Chilagang Basumatary Martyr Tomb Development Committee, Nirjay Mashahary said the development committee had master plan to upgrade and beautify the burial place of Chilagang Basumatary but on many occasions, the development works had not been executed as per plan.
