2 held for welfare fund fraud case in Sivasagar

Joysagar, Jan 23: Sivasagar Police ASP B. Deori and his team bbed two persons on Monday in connection with the Sivasagar Zila Parishad welfare fund misappropriation scam. The accused persons were identified as Rajiv Bhumij of gaon district and Subrat Chaudhari of Sivasagar. Bhumij was the co-supplier of the accused contractor firm, Sufi Suppliers, Guwahati and Chaudhari was the chief accountant of Sivasagar Zila Parishad. Hellaluddin Ahmed of mti, Sivasagar was able to flee during the operation. Hellaluddin was the chief contractor and allegedly the mastermind of the whole scam. Sufi Supplier, Guwahati had allegedly collected about Rs 65 lakh from Sivasagar zila Parishad for supplying various goods to the office but in reality they did not supply any goods and with the help of some employees of the office, the fraudsters were able to draw the amount fraudulently in 2014-2015. The arrested persons Bhumij and Chaudhari had appeared before the CJM, Sivasagar on Monday and the CJM court sent them to police custody for three more days for more interrogation, police sources revealed.
