2 UALA cadres surrender

SHILLONG, Dec 14: Two militants surrendered in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills region, the police said today.  Two members of the United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) militant outfit - Degret B Marak alias Sakwel (20) of Nengbapara village in West Garo Hills district and Armit B Marak alias Chonkham (18) of Didapara village in West Garo Hills district surrendered at SDPO Dadenggre office today. The duo surrendered without weapons. They joined UALA in 2013 and belong to Second batch of the outfit. They received training at Durama Hills in 2013. The UALA was formed by former Achik tiol Volunteers Council leader Norok X Momin in February 2013. The UALA has been holding talks with the Meghalaya government for close to a year now to work out the modalities of a negotiated settlement.
