20 per cent bonus in single cash payment

From a Correspondent

Doomdooma, Sept 10: Akhil Bharatiya Chah Mazdoor Sangha, (Assam) (ABCMS-A) Doomdooma Branch, has demanded 20 per cent bonus to tea workers in single cash instalment 15 days ahead of Durga Puja. In statement issued to the press by president Satyabadi Mura and secretary Jatan Tanti, they stated that during Jata Party’s coalition government at the Centre and the State in 1978, the then Chief Minister Golap Borbora had impressed upon Prime Minister Morarji Desai to amend the Bonus Act of 1975 and replace it with 20 per cent payment of Bonus Act. Even after that  tea workers in Assam were deprived of getting 20 per cent bonus. But due to continued agitation of ABCMS, the tea companies filly conceded to its demand to pay the bonus at the rate of 20 per cent. However, for quite some time past the tea companies in collusion with Asam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) had been depriving the tea workers of getting 20 per cent bonus on various pretexts. In view of present soaring market price, the ABCMS (Assam), has therefore demanded payment of 20 per cent bonus to the workers by the tea companies in single cash payment at least 15 days ahead of Durga Puja.
