20 sacks of molasses seized

MARGHERITA, July 19: Activists All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union Ketetong/Powai Regiol Committee under Margherita subdivision on Tuesday seized near about 20 sacks of molasses from a four-wheeler at Bangaon Powai which were meant for supplying illegally in order to make hooch and illicit liquor.

Chandan Tamang, general secretary of All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union Tinsukia District Committee, said that molasses which are used for making hooch are rampantly supplied in Margherita region from the traders of Tinsukia Chamber Road. In many rural areas of Margherita, hooch and illicit local-made liquor are rampantly sold while the Margherita administration appears to be in slumber, alleged Chandan Tamang.

“We appeal to the Margherita administration to take strict action against these molasses traders who supply molasses for making hooch and illicit liquor,” he added.  The activists of All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union handed over the seized molasses to Margherita Police Station.
