20 students successfully completed one-month internship Under the ‘Speaker’s Initiative’ programme

GUWAHATI, Aug 1: Under the ‘Speaker’s Initiative’ programme, 20 students successfully completed one-month internship programme at the Assam Legislative Assembly. A total of 20 students, 10 undergraduates and 10 postgraduates, were selected from above 300 applicants. Each intern was given a topic and was asked to work on it and submit a report at the end of the term. A group of 3-4 students were attached to an Assembly officer who worked as a guide for the students to research on the topic.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony, Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami congratulated the students and hoped that the students will carry on their learning during the internship – the values and principles of democratic system, institution – to the fellow students and society at large.

While giving away the certificates, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary appreciated the initiative of the Speaker and declared that the 20 students will be taken on an exposure trip to the Indian Parliament to witness its proceedings.

All the students unanimously expressed that the internship benefited them greatly to understand the functionaries of the democratic system. They were also presented with a three-volume set of the ‘Political History of Assam’.
