DIBRUGARH, FEBRUARY 20: More than two hundreds youths, mostly AJYCP members of harkotiya and its adjoining areas, under the leadership of former president, Chandan Handique, formally joined Asom Ga Parishad on Friday.

AGP president Atul Bora graced the meeting where the new members were inducted. He welcomed the newly inducted members and hoped that they would devotedly work towards the fulfillment of the ideals and objectives of the party.

Flaying both Congress and BJP for their “anti-Assamese” attitude, Bora said that both the parties have miserably failed to fulfill the aspirations of the Assamese people and have always worked against the interest of the State and its people.

Coming down heavily on rendra Modi-led BJP government at the Center and Congress-led state government, he stated that they were hell bent on making the State a pasture land of Bangladeshi immigrants.

“Swayed by the BJP’s pre-poll commitment that it would deport all foreign tiols from the State if it came to power, the people of Assam voted for the BJP candidates generously. But after coming to power, the BJP not only did not hesitate to hand over the state’s land to Bangladesh government but also started political maneuvering to rehabilitate lakhs of Bangladeshis in the State. It is very unfortute that BJP is also trying to capitalize on Bangladeshi vote bank as Congress did since independence,” the AGP president added.

He cautioned the people about the evil designs of BJP and called upon all to resist the land swap deal and the move to rehabilitate Bangladeshis.

Flaying the BJP in the strongest of terms, Bora said little could be expected from a Prime Minister, who had insulted the sentiments of Assamese people by putting all gifts including traditiol gamochas presented to him during his visit to the State as a token of love and respect on auction. “The Assamese people will not tolerate such acts and will not allow the BJP to insult the Assamese people any more,” he

further stated.

Meanwhile, thousands of Asom Yuba Parishad activists headed by its president Sunil Rajkonwar burnt the effigy of Prime Minister rendra Modi, protesting the land swap deal and the attempt to rehabilitate Bangladeshis in the State. They raised slogans against the Central government for “betraying the people of the State by not fulfilling their pre-poll commitment”.

The former president of AJYCP, Chandan Handique, was inducted as an executive member of the District AGP Committee. The meeting organized at AGP’s central office at Chowkidinghi was attended by senior AGP leaders like Anup Phukan, Kushumbar Tairai Gogoi, Moni Kanta Chetia, Dipam Baruah, Dipak Saikia and AGP district president, Pokon Baruah, and secretary, Putul Sonowal.

Later, Chandan Handique told The Sentinel that he would initially devote himself in strengthening the party’s organizatiol network in harkotiya and nearby areas.
