2016 Assembly polls will be re-ectment of historic Saraighat battle: Gogoi

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, Dec 26: A Congress party workers’ meet was organized by the Jorhat District Congress Committee covering block Congress, Mandal Congress and booth level committees in Jorhat on Saturday which was presided over by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Jorhat legislator Ra Goswami, former MP Deep Gogoi and a host of other dignitaries including the Chief Executive Officer of the Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council, Kumud Kachari. The meeting that was attended by more than a thousand Congress grassroots-level workers, is being perceived as a meeting aimed at strengthening the Congress base for the upcoming 2016 State elections in its war against the saffron brigade.

Coming down heavily on the BJP, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi while addressing the crowd said, “Congress workers have in recent times become more cautious and alert against the false propaganda launched by the BJP and 2016 Assam elections will be a re-ectment of the historic battle of Saraighat and we will defeat BJP in order to retain the Congress desire of serving the people which is our main motto. Our workers who have now evolved into real soldiers will be our guiding force, thus inflicting heavy losses to the BJP. The 2016 election which will be the present day Saraighat will be fought to protect the rights of the common people against an invading commul and corporate regime known for oppressing people with false promises.”

“And today is a historic day and I declare the opening of front with the BJP and we pledge just before the start of the New Year that we have to defeat the saffron regime. Let it be known that the Congress war is not to claim power but to protect the poor and the downtrodden. The BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Sarbanda Sonowal did not even find time to take stock of the situation and the condition of the flood-affected people of Majuli, Dhemaji. Being a minister in the rendra Modi-cabinet did he not find time to visit the people of his own constituency? And the Prime Minister who does not seem to have respite from his frequent foreign tours, instead of providing funds during floods has curtailed all schemes. The BJP keeps targeting the Congress through its malicious propaganda as during the last parliamentary elections. The BJP which shouts at the death of every rhino keeps mum on the issue of people misplaced by floods. Do they have an answer?” questioned Gogoi.

Earlier Jorhat Legislator Ra Goswami reiterated his stand about being not involved in petty politics of defection saying, “Real Congressmen do not believe in the theory of defection and it is a plot to create confusion and reduce the Congress party’s popularity. Some unscrupulous politicians with a sweet voice and diplomatic ture were once a part of the Congress who later defected for their persol gains and political ambitions. Real Congressmen like us never think of defection.”

Mariani legislator Rup Jyoti Kurmi while launching a direct attack on dissident leader Himanta Biswa Sharma said, “The concept of nine gems who have now migrated to the BJP under former Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma is nothing but a team of spoilbrats who are on the path of destruction. Their leader Himanta Biswa who has already amassed wealth, properties and is acquiring new electronic channels is only because of the blessings of our Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi but he fails to acknowledge it publicly and if he is a seasoned politician then he should refrain from publicly humiliating the Chief Minister for his own nefarious gain. But his false publicity will yield no result as the people of Assam will re-elect Tarun Gogoi as the Chief Minister with a huge and landslide victory.”

Before concluding his speech, the Mariani legislator said, “Prime Minister rendra Modi is a person with dubious traits. In India he fails to wear a Muslim cap but in his visit to Dubai, the Prime Minister left his shoes outside a grand mosque and wore the cap in the presence of the crown prince. This is because the BJP wants investment from the oil rich Middle East countries not for the common people but for their own corporate business expansion. If he is tolerant towards the Arab Muslim population then why not is he tolerant towards the Indian Muslims? Why this double standard?”
