2,090 villages yet to get power

ITAGAR, July 15: Power Minister of Aruchal Pradesh, Tanga Byaling today informed that an estimated 1,306 villages in the state have been electrified while 2, 090 villages are yet to get electricity. Responding to a question raised by BJP member japu Deru in the assembly during question hour regarding electrification under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yoja (RGGVY), Byaling informed that 2090 un-electrified villages would be covered under the scheme.

He said, RGGVY, a central scheme was remed as Din Dayal Upadhay Gram Jyoti Yoja (DDUGJY).

Out of the sanctioned amount of Rs 926.99 crore from the Centre, the department had received Rs 915.66 crore against the scheme on May 24 last out of which an amount of Rs 890.14 crore was released to PIUs. He, however, attributed less population, vast area and frequent migration of people as the reasons for less village electrification.

Responding to a supplementary from Congress MLA Pani Taram, the minister informed that there were less license holders in the state and mostly outsiders compete in tender process.

He said, proposals have been made to illumite street lights through solar energy.
