20th biennial conference of Digboi Press Club held

DIGBOI, August 23: The 20th biennial conference of Digboi Press Club, the oldest media organization of the historic oil city of Digboi in Tinsukia district, concluded recently in the premises of the club.

The programme kicked off early in the morning with the hoisting of the flag of the organization followed by offering floral tribute and lighting ceremonial lamps in memory of the jourlists of Digboi Press Club who have passed away.

In the general sitting that followed in the evening, a new executive body was formed comprising  Binda Konwar and Arup Kalita as the president and secretary of the club respectively while Rajesh Upadhaya was unimously elected as the assistant general secretary and Hira Phukon as the treasurer for the new session to steer the organization towards its objectives. Monoranjan Das was elected as the vice-president for the new session.

All the activities of the Press Club in the past two years, including the fince, were discussed during the general sitting.

Meanwhile, Hitendrath Sarmah, the senior most jourlist of Digboi, who was also elected unimously as the adviser of the club, reiterated the very purpose and objectives to be realized by an effective organization like Digboi Press Club and expressed hope that the new executive body of the organization would led the team towards its multi- dimensiol objectives of social significance and service to mankind.
