21 houses gutted at Jorhat fire

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, Oct 18: Around 21 houses were gutted between the Kabarstan road and Newville road in the heart of Jorhat city on Wednesday. Due to electric short circuit a fire broke out in a godown and soon the fire engulfed the nearby houses with CI-sheet roofing, said Tarun Dihingia, the in-charge of Jorhat Fire Service Organization.

A severe wind was blowing from the western side of the city which helped to spread the fire further, he said. A LPG cylinder also blasted which injured three persons. Six fire tenders maged to douse the flames after over five hours.
