22 year old drowns

Silchar, Dec 13: A 22 year old boy Niranjan Das, son of Joydhan Das, lost his life after he got drowned into Gosaipur Haor on Wednesday at around 8.30 am while trying to save a drowning cow. Though the cow was saved, Niranjan lost his life. As ill luck could have it, another boy Abhijit Das too jumped into the Haor to save Niranjan from drowning. Though he caught hold of Niranjan, he could not save him in the end. Later, Niranjan’s dead body was taken out and sent to Lakhipur Primary Health Centre where he was declared dead. Inspector Anwar Hussain Choudhury, office in-charge of Lakhipur police station along with other police personnel rushed to the spot. The dead boy was later sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post mortem. Anwar Hussain Choudhury helped the bereaved family by providing them some fincial assistance. Abhijit Das was highly appreciated and praised by all for his act of bravery. Joydhan Das is a cultivator by profession.
