23 Congress ticket aspirants in four LACs of Darrang

MANGALDAI,March 7: A total of 23 Congress activists, including Minister for Fisheries, Water Resource Basanta Das, former legislator-cum-Parliamentarian Madhab Rajbongshi, former AGP Minister Dr. Zoii th Sarma, have submitted their application forms seeking their party nomition in four Legislative Assembly Constituencies of Darrang.

Significantly in 67 Mangaldai LAC (SC), Minister Basanta Das is the lone applicant for the party nomition which has confirmed his party nomition for the ensuing poll. On the other hand, a total of 12 Congress activists have submitted the application form seeking party nomition from 65 Kalaigaon LAC. Of them, prominent individuals are two time AGP legislator from the constituency, Mahendra Mohan Rai Chowdhury, chairman of Mangaldai Municipality Board (MMB) Pratap Bordoloi, woman activist Wahida Ahmed and Youth Congress activist Indrajit Saikia. The Congress since 1972 failed to bag this seat.

In 66 Sipajhar LAC, eight aspirants including former two-time Minister in AGP government Dr. Zoii th Sarma, former Parliamentarian and legislator Madhab Rajbongshi, Kuladip Barua, veteran Congress activist Jiban Barua and woman activist Satya Rani Kalita have submitted their application forms. Only two aspirants mely Parliamentary Secretary Illias Ali and woman activist Shehz Yasmin have submitted their application form seeking party nomition from 68 Dalgaon LAC.
