23rd foundation day of TU observed

TEZPUR, Jan 23: The 23rd foundation day of Tezpur University was observed with three lectures by three eminent persolities of the country – Prof P Balaram, former Director of IISc, Bangalore, Prof Sanjoy Hazarika, Director, Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and Mamang Dai, noted jourlist and author from Aruchal Pradesh.

Prof Mihir K Chaudhuri, Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University, called upon the youths of the ‘youngest country’ of the world to utilize their energy and talent for the cause of development.

Mamang Dai said that a foundation day is not only an observation or a celebration, it should symbolize the foundation of tomorrow “which is our greatest responsibility to make our successors responsible.”

Citing a number of instances, Prof Sanjay Hazarika threw light on the brutalities of commul hatred and urged all to be extremely careful in using words like ‘foreigner’ or ‘Bangladeshi’ while referring to a person or a group of persons.
