Diphu, April 24: More than 24 organizations staged mass demonstration and procession at Diphu Semson Sing Park on Monday and submitted an ultimatum to KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang for immediate revision and correction of KAAC voters’ list, taking up of traditional village councils for executing executive and judicial works, and cancellation of pattas and sale of land of DC establishment and other government departments, repealing the Mikir Hills district (transfer of land) Act, 1959 and carrying out high court order in Case No. WP (C) 4014/2011.

The 24 organizations jointly demanded the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council that, as per the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India under Paragraph 1, 2 and 20, the KAAC should make separate electoral rolls and rules for KAAC election. The organization leaders also alleged that due to the negligence in implementing some basic provision of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India, political power and land rights had been usurped by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and other non-Scheduled Tribes who entered Karbi Anglong after 1951. So the KAAC must urge the Governor to issue declaration for implementation of Paragraph 17 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.

The leaders also urged the KAAC for immediate deletion of illegal non-ST names from the KAAC voters’ list. They served a 15-day ultimatum to the KAAC to fulfil their demands.
