24x7 power supply in gaon from today: Rakibul

GAON, January 16: “After Guwahati, 24x7 power supply to every power consumer in gaon district is ascertained from today,” said State Power Minister Rakibul Hussain in gaon Circuit House auditorium on Saturday evening while addressing a press conference.

The minister stated further that districts like Morigaon, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao would get 24x7 power supply within another 45 days as there were some technical problems which would be solved within a stipulated time. Hussain, however, said that till 2001, the total number of power consumers in the State was only 6 lakh and at present it has touched around 33 lakh for which the department had faced huge scarcity of power.

 “But this time the government led by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi tried to solve all these problems within a stipulated time,” Hussain added. He stated that to distribute power to all consumers of the entire State the department had divided the state in some zones so that all the consumers would get quality power equally. The minister also declared that the State Government had launched a subsidy scheme under the fund of the department which was iugurated in gaon on Saturday.

Under this scheme, in the first phrase 2 lakh consumers of electricity would get two LED bulbs each as the power consumption of LED bulb was comparatively less than CFL bulbs and if it would be expanded to the cover 33 lakh consumers of the State. “If we cover 33 lakh consumers, then we can save 120 MW power in the State per year,” Hussain added. He further stated here that the power department would pay the six months arrear to every employee of the power department.
