27th national conference on soil conservation to be held at Assam Agricultural University (AAU)

JORHAT: The 27th National Conference of the Soil Conservation Society of India (SCSI), New Delhi on ‘Sustainable Management of Soil and Water resources for Doubling of Farmer’s Income’ will be jointly organized by Assam Agricultural University and the Assam Chapter of the Society from October 25 to October 27 at Dr MC Das Memorial Auditorium, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat campus, said Dr. Ranjit Kumar Saud, the university Public Relation Officer on Wednesday.

The PRO said that the conference would offer a platform to discuss the burgeoning issue of soil degradation and nutrient depletion owing to challenges and problems like flood and erosion, climate change, pollution, loss in biodiversity and related policy issues. The conference will deliberate on protection, conservation and development of soil and water resources for using them sustainably to alleviate poverty, ensure food security, enhance livelihood security, environmental stability and improve the quality of life.

The conference is expected to be attended by more than 150 participants across the country comprising scientists, researchers, academicians, government officers, policy makers, extension workers, field functionaries, conservationists, industry, students, farmers, NGOs and other stakeholders.
