29th Road Safety Week begins

Tezpur, April 24: The 29th National Road Safety week programme, organised under the aegis of Sonitpur district administration, transport and police department under the theme ‘Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha’ got underway here at Tezpur from April 23 to 30. The programme was flagged off by ADC Sonitpur Kulen Sarmah. During the course of the week, various activities including processions, car rallies, street plays, health check-up camps and drivers’ training camps will be held to bring awareness on the issue of road safety. During the programme, Kulen Sarmah said that civil society needs to cooperate with the police to curb drunken driving and students should take initiative to create awareness on traffic and motor vehicle rules. Sarmah urged the bikers to always wear helmets while driving two wheelers.
