2nd phase of Lok Sabha polls begins in Assam

Guwahati: Polling for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in Assam started at 8992 polling stations in five constituencies from 7 am.

The five constituencies that goes on poll today are Karimganj, Silchar, Mangaldoi, Nowgong and Autonomous Districts.

An average of 11.61% polling has been recorded till 9 AM in five constituencies in Assam. In Karimganj, the voter turnout recorded to be 11.82% till 9 AM while in Silchar the polling percentage was 13.29. In Autonomous District, the voter turnout recorded was 12%, Mangaldoi 11.32% and Nowgong turns out with 11.61%.

A total of 50 candidates are in fray in the five constituencies to contest in the Lok Sabha polls which is undergoing today.

A total of 35968 polling personnel have been deployed in the polling centers to conduct free and fair elections.

A total of 6910592 electors are eligible to vote in the five constituencies out of which 3554460 are male and 3355952 are female and 180 are transgender voters.

The Election Commission has prepared 137 all women polling stations for the second phase of polls which includes 11 in Karimganj, 26 in Nowgong, 67 in Mangaldoi, 10 women polling stations in Silchar and 23 in Autonomous Districts.

There are 1033 remote polling stations in the five constituencies which goes on polling today out of which 350 such stations are in Karimganj, 410 in Silchar, 43 in Mangaldoi and 230 in Autonomous Districts.

However, malfunctioning in Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) have been reported in different polling stations in Dima Hasao district for which polling has been started lately.
