Itanagar, April 22: At least three Army personnel died and four others sustained injuries when a vehicle of the Madras Regiment skidded off the road and fell into the Kundil river in Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday morning, official sources said. The ill-fated vehicle with 18 personnel was on its routine movement when the mishap occurred around 2.30 am in the morning, Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom said.

The accident occurred when the road near a landslide-prone zone, near Iduli village, suddenly gave away and as a result the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the river.

The district administration along with police and Army are undertaking rescue operations, the DC said adding so far two bodies have been recovered.

"The bodies were brought to the hospital and search is on for the missing personnel," she said adding the NDRF battalion stationed at Changlang district had left for the mishap site.
