3 dead after boat capsizes in Krishgar Beel

Silchar, July 25: Three persons, Mehboob Hussain Laskar (24), Biswajit Paul (23) and Rajib Das (22), have lost their lives when the country boat on which they mounted, capsized at Krishgar Beel near Binkandie Development Block, Lakhipur, at around 2 pm during the storm on Sunday. In all, there were 9 persons on the boat. Out of these 9, 6 were from Lakhipur and the rest from Krishgar. All of them were within the age group of 20 to 25 years. Out of these persons, 2 reached safely to the banks of the Beel and 4 others were rescued by local fishermen Sujit Das, Biswajit Das, Nogen Choudhury and Satish Das.  The District Disaster Magement Authority, Cachar, immediately deployed both SDRF and NDRF for carrying out search and rescue operation in the Beel. Later, considering the gravity of the situation, the Assam Rifles team was also deployed in the rescue operation. Mehboob Hussain Laskar’s body was found on Monday early morning. The body was seen by Kishore Das and Runu Das. Mehboob Hussain Laskar, son of Lukman Ali Laskar, has been cremated on Monday. His family members did not allow his body to be sent for post mortem and requested Magistrate Wahidul Islam, ACS and Khirod Baishya, office in-charge, Lakhipur Police Station to allow them to cremate Mehboob’s body without post mortem.   The bodies of Biswajit Paul, son of Babul Paul, and Rajib Das, son of Kumud Das, have been found today morning. Their bodies were seen by an aged man Rashomoy Das. The search operation was carried out by SDRF and NDRF under the supervision of Wahidul Islam, ACS, Guarav Kumar Aggarwal, sub divisiol police officer, Lakhipur, and Khirod Biashya. A high level inter-ministerial central team is expected to visit Silchar on July 26. They team will visit areas where mass erosion in the dykes and embankments have occurred. A review meeting will also be held with the district administration of Cachar. Local people and members VDP have helped the search teams in their operation. Upon receiving the information, ADC J R Lalsim, SDO (Civil) in-charge took a prompt action and directed the SDRF, NDRF and others to plunge into action. Circle Officer Pradip Kumar Gupta, advocate Sanjay Thakur, Lakhipur Mandal BJP president and Lakhipur Forest Officer also visited the spot on Sunday. MLA Rajdeep Goala has urged upon the district administration of Cachar and civil administration of Lakhipur to provide fincial assistance to the families of the deceased persons. The accident has sent waves of shock to the local people.
